Preparing the pond

The height of the pond bottom should be above the average water level, create a trench in the middle of the pond about 2 m wide towards the sluice gate.

Pond management

In the early stages of farming, keep pond water at 15cm. After 45 days of rearing, cobia reaching a size of over 5cm may damage the bottom of the algal substrate. At this time, people need to drain the water and dry it in the sun for 3 to 6 days. Next, apply fertilizer or rice bran. Finally, put brackish water into the pond, let the bottom algae layer form, reduce the water level to 2cm to 7cm.

Ensure the best temperature for cobia to grow above 28oC. Be careful not to kill the fish because they will stop growing when the temperature drops below 14oC.

After a period of raising fish with bitter and sweet taste, people harvest fish to sell. Cobia cultured from 1 to 2 years reaches commercial size depending on pond conditions and management. The smallest size is 24 g, the largest size is 40 g with a survival rate of 60%.

Step 1: People use bamboo barriers at the main entrance to the fish pits or use nets to block water at the entrance to catch fish.
