Pink tangerine is a very popular tangerine in our country, especially during Tet holidays, it is often displayed as an ornamental. Tangerine is a fruit tree adapted to special soil and climate conditions. The area specializing in persimmon cultivation is Lai Vung district (Dong Thap), now the whole district has an area of about 1200 hectares, located in three communes, Long Hau, Tan Phuoc, and Tan Thanh. However, each family can grow their own pot of tangerines on Tet holiday, right? Let’s follow the article below with Agrisearch.net!

Planting season

Prepare the soil for planting:

Land for growing tangerines
Land for growing tangerines

Planting oranges and tangerines on alluvial soil along the river, alluvial soil, newly cleared forest land, valley soil, ancient alluvial soil with layers of 80-100 cm thick, high humus content, tall, well drained, groundwater level is less than 1m. The place for planting citrus must be high, airy, and drained. The suitable pH for the soil is from 5.5 to 6.

One month before planting, the land must be cleared of weeds, plowed carefully, divided into plots and rows, and dig holes to fertilize.

Digging holes

Planting density for grafted plants on rootstocks sowing seeds from about 300 – 500 plants/1 ha – the distance between trees and rows is from 4 x 5m (orange, mandarin) or 6 x 7 m (grapefruit).

Grapefruit, orange, and tangerine trees grafted on clonal rootstocks (extracts, grafts), can be planted at a higher density: 800 – 1200 trees/ha, with spacings of 4 x 2m; 3 x 3 m; 3 x 4m.

Plant tree

The size of the dug hole is 60 x 60 x 60 cm. High places need to dig deeper, wider holes: 70x70x70 cm. The excavated soil layer is mixed with 30 kg of well-rotted manure; 0.2-0.5 kg of phosphate fertilizer (Termophosphate); 0.1-0.2 kg potassium sulfate (K2SO4). Note the hole 10-15 days before planting.

When planting, people dig again in the middle of the hole and fill a small hole a little deeper and wider than the pot, put the tree straight and fill it with soil 3-5 cm higher than the potting surface, compact the soil and water it. Then, once a day, water the soil once so that the soil has a moisture content of 70% saturated soil moisture for 10 consecutive days. Then, depending on the soil moisture, decide to water once every 3-5 days. In the dry season, it is necessary to cover citrus roots with hay, straw, green leaves with a layer of 5-10 cm thick to keep moisture and prevent weeds from growing. Remember to cover with grass and soil 10 cm from the root to prevent root rot.

CARE, PROTECTION:

Fertilizing:

Citrus fruits need to be fertilized with a lot of fertilizer, balance nutritional elements, and have enough micronutrients to grow healthy, strong, resistant to pests and diseases, durable and give a high harvest.

Based on tree age to fertilize:

– Plants from 1 to 4 years old: 1 year, apply 30 kg manure once a year along with 0.1-0.2 kg of fused phosphate fertilizer at the end of the growing season (from November to January) In addition, 200g of urea and 100g of urea g potassium sulfate in January-February (30% nitrogen fertilizer) April-May (40% nitrogen + potassium) and August-September (30% nitrogen remaining)

– Plants from 5-8 years old, the dose of fertilizer is as follows: Good manure 30-50 kg/year. The type of urea used 1 – 2 kg (can be replaced with 1/2 by sulphate to avoid sulfur deficiency). Fused phosphate fertilizer 3.5 kg. Potassium fertilizer SO4 from 1 – 1.2 kg. Kinds such as manure and phosphate fertilizer 1 time after the harvest. Apply 60% nitrogen fertilizer and 40% potash fertilizer in January and February; 60% potash and 40% nitrogen fertilizer left in May-June. It is also possible to evenly divide nitrogen fertilizer to fertilize 3 times: January 1-2: 40%; May-June: 30%; August-September: 30%.

(Note: All kinds of fertilizers are spread from about 30 to 50cm from the root, covered with a thin layer of powdered soil, straw, watered. Avoid the case of too thick soil cover, close to the root will cause citrus root rot).

Based on the age and yield of citrus to fertilize:

– Trees from 1-3 years old: Manure 25-30 kg/plant; fused phosphate fertilizer or crushed phosphate 200-500g/plant; urea fertilizer: 150-200 g/plant.

– Plants 4-5 years old: 30 kg manure/plant; urea nitrogen 300g; fused phosphorus 500 g/plant; potassium sulfate 300 g; lime powder 500g – 600g/plant. Manure, phosphate fertilizer 1 time at the end of the growing season with lime powder. Nitrogen and potassium fertilizers are divided into 3 times: 1-2 months (30% nitrogen fertilizer), April-May (40% nitrogen + potassium fertilizer) and August-September (the remaining 30% nitrogen fertilizer).

– Trees about 6-8 years old or older: can be based on the annual harvest to quantify fertilizer. In case of harvesting 15 tons of fruit/1 ha, fertilize 1 tree: 30 kg of manure/plant, 400g of urea nitrogen/plant, 1000g of fused phosphate fertilizer/plant; lime powder 1000g/tree; Potassium sulfate 500g/plant. That is the amount of fertilizer for 1 tree according to the output of 15 tons of fruit/ha, planting density of 600 trees.

– For example, the yield is 30 tons/ha and the density is 1200 plants/ha, the amount of fertilizer for 1 tree does not change. And if the yield is still 15 tons/ha, the amount of fertilizer for 1 tree is reduced to 1/2. But for example, if the yield is doubled: 60 tons/ha, the amount of fertilizer for 1 tree will also be increased accordingly..

Watering mandarin oranges:

In the dry season, the moisture in the soil decreases to 40% of saturated soil moisture, and in the light drought period, it is also up to 40-50%. At that time, it is necessary to water the plants to reach 100% saturated soil moisture at least in the part around the root according to a cycle of 3 – 5 days, once permeable watering or sprinkler irrigation, which has a significant effect on improving yield.

Pruning branches to create canopy for mandarin oranges:

Canopy for plants by extraction must be carried out from the end of the first year after planting, grafted plants must be carried out right in the nursery.

-Creating level 1 pruning: From the ground level 1 branch from 30-60 cm, cut off the lower branches. If grafting trees, from grafting to branching from about 25-30 cm, each tree should have 3-4 level 1 branches, evenly distributed in all directions, the angle of level 1 branches relative to the trunk is about 45-60 degrees.

-Create level 2 pruning: Each level 1 branch leaves the first 3 level 2 branches from 40-60 cm, the angle of level 1 and level 2 branches is 60-80 degrees.

-Regular pruning: Pruning old branches, pests, toothpicks, overhanging branches, dry branches, creating conditions for the tree canopy to open.

Measures to prevent pests and diseases

Regularly investigate and monitor the density of leafhoppers on orange groves, especially in the spring bud period, when leafhoppers have great potential to transmit yellow leaf disease. Implement pest control with chemical drugs, prevent the ability of planthoppers to transmit diseases. Use some drugs such as Trebon 0.15-0.2%, Sherpa 0.1-0.2%, Sherzol 0.1-0.2%, spray 600-800 liters of mixed water/ha to control planthoppers during the period of vegetative growth. For newly planted trees that often have young leaves, it is necessary to monitor techniques on the orchard, conduct early prevention and limit disease transmission.

New Year is coming to every home, in addition to profiting from growing mandarin oranges for the spring crop, each family can also grow their own pot of pink mandarin, right? Both beautiful, cost-effective and clearly meaningful.

Happy successful people!
