Techniques for growing lettuce for a bountiful yield

Lettuce is a herbaceous plant. Lettuce has many types such as: lettuce, large leaf lettuce, green lotto, purple bingo… In which, the lettuce is easy to grow, does not need much care, low cost and high yield.

Lettuce is suitable for long day cycles. From the time of sowing to the time of harvest is about 60-65 days. Details lettuce growing techniques will be in the next post.

Planting season for lettuce

Lettuce can be grown all year round and is best from August this year to April next year for egg salads and from July to February for lilacs. If sown from March to April, it can be eaten in the summer.

Seed treatment before sowing

Using some varieties with high yield, good resistance to pests and diseases such as lettuce, Mineto bud lettuce, etc.

Treat seeds before sowing with Rorval, Aliette, Benlat C, Viben C. Amount of seed sown (then uprooted) for 500m2: 300g (600 g/1,000 m2). After sowing, cover with a thin layer of soil mixed with manure, covered with a thin layer of straw. The dry season needs enough moisture.

Best method: Treat seeds with Comcat (Golden Rice Corporation) then sow on foam trays or plastic trays, place in nurseries, fertilize when plants meet seedling standards, then transfer to production fields. .

Preparing the soil for growing lettuce

Can grow cabbage on many different types of soil, actively irrigated. The soil needs to be plowed and dried for 10 to 15 days before planting.

Should treat lime or powder Dolomite, Silibore before sowing. The amount of fertilizer is from 40kg – 70kg/1,000m2.

In the rainy season, it is necessary to cover the soil with straw or plastic tarpaulin to limit weeds and wash away manure. It is not recommended to plant many consecutive crops of lettuce on the same bare foot (need to rotate with root vegetables or fruit).

Up the bed: 15-20cm high, 90cm wide, 30cm trench, the bed surface must be flat, porous and not rough to easily cover with nylon tarpaulin and perforate planting.

About the priming stage: All manure has been rotted, applied with the amount of 500 – 1,000 kg/1,000 m2 (or processed organic fertilizer with the amount of 200kg-500 kg/1000m2). Organic fertilizer + 50kg domestic phosphate fertilizer (fused phosphorus or super phosphate) mix well and fertilize before planting with bed mites.

Covering with canvas: Use a tarpaulin of size 90cm, stretch it, use bamboo pins to pin it tightly, or cover with soil to fix the canvas.

In terms of density, the appropriate planting distance for lettuce: Plants about 15-20cm apart; rows about 15-20cm apart. Density is 16,000-17,000 plants/ 500m2 (32,000 – 34,000 plants/1,000 m2).

When the plant has 2-3 true leaves, it should be transplanted in the cool afternoon. After transplanting, spray the tree with water to cut the root.

Note: The amount of plants needs to be stored about 10% with uprooted plants for replanting & and about 2% with plants in trays for planting miles to ensure density.

Planting miles: Conduct inspection and plant miles right after planting about 2-3 days for dead and diseased trees. Miles in the cool afternoon, after miles must go to the country immediately.

Fertilization techniques

Total amount of fertilizer for 1000m2. Composted manure 500- 1,000kg (or processed organic fertilizer with the amount = 200kg-500kg/1,000 m2); Domestic pig: 50kg; Urea:12kg; Potassium: 12kg; Oil cake (if any): 30kg.

Lining: Whole manure or 100% phosphate organic fertilizer, 3kg Urea oil cake and 3kg Potassium.

First time: (when the plant has 2-3 true leaves): Apply urea with the amount of 3.0 kg

2nd time: 15 days after sowing (NSG): 3kg of urea mixed with water evenly

3rd time: (20-25NSG): dilute 3.0 kg Urea +3kg Potassium evenly watered

Note: Depending on the growth situation of the plant, it is possible to increase or decrease the amount of fertilizer accordingly and use more NPK foliar fertilizer (30-10-10). Particularly for the third time, spray foliar fertilizer NPK (12-0-40+ 3ca) or NPK (20-20-20).

Absolutely stop using fertilizer 8-10 days before harvest

Pest control measures for lettuce

The main pests on the lettuce group are mainly green worms, worms, silkworms, and green worms. For these pests, it is recommended to use microbial insecticides for prevention such as BT, VI-BT, Dipel, Delfin, Amectin, Acmenovate; Thiamectin, Centari. . .

The main diseases are seedling death, soft rot, ring spot, so Aliette, COC85, Ridomil, Monceren, Validacine, Physan, Norshel should be sprayed for prevention. Pay attention to early observation. Spray dosage is indicated on the product packaging, pay attention to stop spraying 8-10 days before harvest.

Harvest and storage techniques

Harvest: After transplanting to the field, it can be harvested from 35-40 days, not too old to reduce product quality, when collecting, use a knife to cut close to the root.

Storage: Careful storage, avoid the product being crushed and dust attached, should be packed before shipping; must ensure fresh, clean when put out for consumption.

Note: After planting 1-2 batches of vegetables, it is necessary to add nutrients to the plants with microbial organic fertilizer with the amount of 350-400 g/m2 or 80-100 g/tray size 40x 60cm. The soil is plowed again and dried in 2-3 sun to kill pests and diseases.
