Mink Breeding Technique You May Not Know

Weasel is a commercial animal with high economic value. Do you want to own your own ferret farm? So ferret farming techniques in these few articles will be something you cannot miss.

Civets catch prey (birds, mice, snakes…) very well. The main food is animals. The favorite foods of ferrets are insects, mice, small birds, lizards, worms, eggs… In addition, they also eat a variety of tubers, fruits and roots…

Animal lodging

The ferret cage is simply designed by building a cement wall on an empty rectangular yard. The wall is built about 1m high, surrounding the top of the wall is a B40 grid and has a door that opens firmly…

The ferret cage is made in the southeast direction, the roof is tiled, high and airy, with a convenient opening and closing window system, with a ventilation fan installed, ensuring winter warmth and cool summer.

Inside the breeding ferret cage, it is designed with cement, or with soil, and is divided into several compartments, each with an area of about 5-10m2, with holes for easy drainage… Each compartment is stocked. two male and female ferrets.

In the barn, it is possible to design a multi-storey truss (2-3 floors) of concrete or bamboo, solid wood to store the civet cages, each floor is 0.7-0.8 m high, the cribs on one floor must be sealed with cardboard sheets so that the ferrets in the two kennels can’t see each other, in order to prevent stress. The floor of each floor is made of concrete with a slight slope (about 5-60) towards the drainage ditch of the barn floor. Normally, civet cages are made of solid iron mesh B40, the door has solid latches, so that the civets can’t get out.

Each rectangular box has a volume of 1 m3 (1 m wide, 2 m long, 0.5 m high, with 4-6 legs 0.2 m high), can raise 2-3 children. The bottom of the crib is made of iron or bamboo net, solid and thin wood (separated 7-10 cm) so that the feces can reach the floor, when cleaning, it is easy to clean up.

Choosing varieties and growing season for meat

Choose healthy, uninjured animals, smooth hair, agile eyes and nose, sharp eyes… mink breeds with a weight of 1.0-1.5 kg/head are easy to raise.

Usually release ferrets in February-March. Autumn, sold in June-August. ferrets, if well cared for, can gain weight very quickly and can reach 0.7-1.0 kg/head/month. When the civet reaches a weight of about 4-6 kg, it is sold according to the needs of the customer.

Taming civets

In the wild, the ferret’s natural nature is usually active and feeding at night, the main food of the ferret is insects, mice, birds, snakes, salamanders, ants, termites, bird eggs and many more. tubers, fruits and roots… Therefore, when raising ferrets, we should feed the civets with dinner as the main meal, breakfast as a supplement and practice feeding the ferrets artificial food provided by humans.

Practice feeding ferrets artificial food

To raise civets, it takes time to train them to eat foods that are completely new to their natural instincts, this must be done slowly, persist for 5-10 days, and the civets will eat normally. .

First, we let the civets fast for 1-2 days, then feed them with ripe bananas, peeled, so that the whole fruit (1-2 fruit / animal / meal) mixed with sugar porridge (for relatively sweet like cooking tea). finely cooked. At first, civets only ate bananas and licked the sugar porridge around, feeding like that for about 4-5 meals. Then, puree ripe bananas with sugar porridge for 1-2 days. When the civets are willing to eat, give sugar porridge first, additional fruits later.

To gain weight quickly, it is necessary to practice feeding the civets with boiled sugar porridge with animals such as: Pigs, dogs, cats, shrimps, fish… and add B.Complex, multivitamins, concentrated chicken bran (Concentrat) …

Cleaning the barn

In addition to feeding just enough, avoiding rancid leftovers, it is necessary to clean the barn daily and occasionally let the barn dry in the sun to kill pathogens, to ensure that the barn is always dry, clean and airy. cool, no pollution to the environment. Feces and urine are drained out through the sewer system arranged when designing. The barn is clean and hygienic, helping the ferrets to grow quickly, reproduce a lot and not get sick.

Perhaps carrying a sweet fragrance, ferrets are very intolerant of unsanitary cages. Any cages that do not clean them often get sick and go to another cage.

Caring, Nurturing

Civets have been tamed, often hanging around the cage and docile like cats, but it should be noted that when they give birth, they are very aggressive.

Civets have been domesticated, each year can give birth to 2 litters, each litter from 2-5 children. ferrets are very healthy, less sick…

Note, when the ferrets are looking for a nest, we can use a crockery basin (type of wash basin …) to put it in the cage and then force the pregnant ferret to put it in the tub for them to give birth… in domesticated conditions, if making a cage underground or dig a burrow for the civets to lay, they just lie there. The ferrets only give birth when the owner puts them in the tank to lay. When they have just given birth, if they are taken away, the mother civet will ruffle her feathers and bite. When the civets are strong enough to find a way out of the tub, they will obediently let us put them in the cage.

Prevention and treatment of diseases

Civets in artificial feeding conditions are very sensitive to novel foods. When changing food, they often have diarrhea, stools that are not formed, thin, watery. Diarrhea should be prevented by giving ferrets antibiotics to prevent disease or mixing antibiotics into new food for ferrets to eat (the preventive dose is only 1/2-1/3 of the treatment dose).

Civets can also get coccidiosis (bloody stools) or typhoid (high fever, yellow liquid stools) like other livestock. We can treat with veterinary drugs for prevention and treatment of livestock and poultry of reputable veterinary drug manufacturers (mixed with feed) … Dosage calculates the amount of medicine/kg body weight, similar as the dose for poultry. With oral medicine according to the experience of many long-time civet farmers, it should be increased 3 times compared to the instructions on the package to quickly recover from the disease…

Hopefully with the information we share. Your ferret farming technique will be better and achieve the highest yield.
