Instructions on how to grow radish for high yield

Cruciferous plants are easy-to-grow, easy-to-care and high-value agricultural crops that are popularly grown in all regions of our country. With a high nutritional content, and an ingredient in many attractive dishes, radish has become one of the most trusted vegetables today. This is a plant variety with a relatively stable market and price. Therefore, the tree is chosen by many farmers to grow and do business. To grow radishes for large, beautiful and high-yield bulbs, farmers need to have proper planting and care techniques.

1. Choose the time to plant radishes

Radish is a popular plant grown in cold countries, the plant has high cold tolerance, grows best at a temperature of 18-25 degrees Celsius. However, this plant does not tolerate frost. In Vietnam, depending on the climatic conditions of each region, people grow radish according to the appropriate season. Radishes are usually grown in 3 main crops of the year, including Spring-Summer (February – April), main (August – September) and late (October – November).

2. Prepare seeds and soil for radish cultivation

Seeds of wealth

In order to grow radishes for high yield and good quality, farmers should conduct a selection of good quality radish varieties. Currently in our country, radish varieties have many advantages and are widely grown, including: Le Chi radish, Hanoi radish BM, Thai radish, Thai Binh radish BM131, …

Seeds selected for planting must be firm, smooth, high uniformity, and free from pests and diseases to have a good germination, growth and development rate.

Preparing the soil for radish cultivation

Radish is a plant that does not require much soil. However, when farmers grow radishes for business, if they want high yield, they should choose soil rich in humus, with porosity and good drainage. Radishes are well suited to soil with a pH of 6-7. You can grow radishes on light soil or sandy soil.

Before planting, it is necessary to conduct a thorough soil treatment, including the following stages: clearing the remnants of old crops, clearing weeds, plowing and drying to eliminate residual pathogens in the soil. After that, farmers planted beds with 1.2-1.5m wide, 20-25cm high (for Spring-Summer crop) or 15-20cm (for Autumn-Winter crop). The beds should be spaced 30-40cm apart.

Fertilize 1-2 days before sowing seeds. The amount of fertilizer per hectare of cultivated land includes: 12 – 15 tons of well-rotted manure + 30 – 50 kg of phosphate fertilizer + 13 – 20 kg of nitrogen fertilizer + 20 – 26 kg of potassium fertilizer.

3. Instructions on how to grow cabbages

White radish is grown by two main methods: direct seeding and seedling first and then planting in the garden. In particular, direct sowing in the planting bed is the most commonly used method.

After planting in the beds, the farmers cut the rows to sow the seeds. Rows are spaced from 25 to 30 cm apart. Proceed to put fertilizer into each incision fully and then backfill with soil a few days before sowing seeds. Use your fingers to press holes with a depth of 2-3cm, each hole can be put from 2-3 seeds and then cover with a thin layer of loose soil, followed by a layer of straw to keep the beds moist. .

In order for the seeds to germinate well, people should sow 5-6 rows/bed, 10 -15cm apart. The appropriate amount of agricultural seeds to sow is from 12-15kg/ha.

4. Tree care after planting

When the seeds have germinated into seedlings, people take care of the plants by fertilizing, watering, and other technical measures to help the plants grow, develop well and give high yields.

Although it is a moisture-loving plant, radishes cannot tolerate waterlogging. Therefore, when planting radishes, people need to provide a sufficient amount of water, not too much to avoid waterlogging of the roots. Water the plants once every 2 days with clean water. Note that only skimming watering, not drenching water.

The characteristic of radish plants is that when the tubers are formed, the tubers will often rise to the surface of the bed, making the skin rough and not bright. When growing radishes, if you want them to be big and bright, you need to cover them with straw right after sowing to keep the plants moist. Besides mulching with straw, people cultivate beds in combination with fertilizing plants. When spraying, proceed to dig up the scum and then cultivate. Be careful not to dig so close to the roots that the tree will break its roots. The root dragon tree will be underdeveloped and may die.
