The right time to plant melon

The reasonable time to plant melon is around January and February of the lunar calendar every year. People should also choose a warm sunny day to sow seeds to bring high yield.

If you plant melon at another time like in the rainy season, you should make a trellis for the melon to climb, to avoid the situation that the melon fruit will soak up water and the wet soil will rot.

When planting melons, the seeds located in the part closest to the root of the fruit, gradually up to the middle of the fruit are prioritized for breeding. Or you can buy it from outside to plant.

Encourage people to use rotting organic fertilizer mixed with soil, form pellets like corn kernels and then put in a loofah planting bin, cover with a thin layer of soil and sow seeds.

How to grow

  • Sowing seeds: soak seeds in warm 2 boiling 3 cold water for 4-6 hours. Then we take it out, wash it, and put it in a damp towel. Incubate until the seeds crack (about 36-48 hours), then sow.
  • After sowing the seeds, cover with a thin layer of soil about 1cm above.
  • Planting seedlings: When the seeds germinate and have 2 to 3 young leaves, we proceed to separate the seedlings so that the distance between the plants is from 0.8-1m, the double row is 4-5m.

How to take care

Before planting melon, use 1kg of powdered phosphorus and 1-2kg of rotted manure mixed into the soil. Then cover it with a layer of soil and sow the seeds.

Melon is a climbing plant. Therefore, in order to grow melons more effectively, produce more fruit and grow long, we must create more roots so that the plant can absorb more water and nutrients.

When the vines are about 2m long, proceed to rooting. Take the scissors to cut the hand, roll the leaves, then lower 1m into the pot, the remaining 1m continue to climb up the truss and lightly cover the nodes with soil.

To make it easy to bend the tree, when the tree is on the tassel, it is not advisable to climb up the truss so that the tree can bend to the ground (doing so that it will be easier when we circle the rope, the tree will not be bent or broken. origin).

After it has fallen to the ground, let the tree climb on the truss. When the plant is 2m tall, we proceed to loop the rope down to the pot. When the nodes on the stem have taken root, proceed to cover 5-10cm more soil on top of the pot.

Water the plants: use a sprinkler or a smart irrigation system such as drip irrigation or low pressure sprinkler irrigation to water the plants.

For summer, we water 2 times a day in the early morning and cool afternoon. Avoid watering during midday heat.

For winter, watering should be done only once a day. Do not over water the melon.

During flowering, watering should be increased. Do not spray water on flowers and young fruit.

When growing melons, in addition to rotten fertilizers, they need other fertilizers such as phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. If the melon is only fertilized with nitrogen but not with phosphorus and potassium, the plants will have few fruits.

The dose of fertilizer must also be at the right time so that the melon gives more fruit and sustains the tree. If applied improperly, melon will give little fruit and quickly fade.

Pest prevention

After planting from 1-2 days, we start spraying herbal solution to prevent pests. To achieve high efficiency in pest prevention, each spray mixes 5ml of solution with 1 liter of water to spray 10m2 of vegetables, every 5 days we spray.

After about 38-40 days of planting, the first fruits have appeared and you can harvest already. People should harvest from when the fruit is young, it will be much more delicious and sweet.

If you want to grow new vegetables after harvesting, people should dig up the soil, dry it in the sun 2-3 times and add more soil with worm humus to ensure nutrition.
