Besides the new breakthrough in the shrimp farming industry, the rapid development of the above models risks polluting the environment and spreading pathogens if there is no thorough waste treatment solution.

In order to deal with the risk of pollution and epidemics getting out of control, the local fisheries sector has promoted the propaganda of good management of environmental factors in the process of aquaculture development with the support of local authorities. International organizations.

In addition, shrimp farming follows a closed circulation system, using microbial products for environmental protection instead of chemicals and antibiotics during the farming process. Before 2020, the production areas north of National Highway 1A of Bac Lieu province, including the districts of Hong Dan, Phuoc Long and Gia Rai town, are still alum soils. By bringing shrimp to live together on rice land, the combined shrimp-rice production model not only helps farmers change their lives, but also opens up sustainable production directions for two local economic strengths: exporting organic shrimp and clean, quality rice grains.

Different from the previous type of industrial shrimp farming with water circulation, the green technology shrimp farming model has a process of bringing water from the pond to the biogas bag before releasing the waste canal system in the square. The new water is then returned to the pond for reuse. The advantage of this model is that the possibility of contaminated water from wastes and residues in the farming process almost does not occur.

Agriculture and Fishery Cooperative 14/10 is one of the profitable units made from clean shrimp farming. On an area of ​​​​nearly 30 hectares of water surface for shrimp farming, the cooperative provides the market with about 50 tons of commercial shrimp every year, earning billions of dong a year in net profit.

But we also don’t set the index too high so that only businesses can do it. Our vision is based on the principles of sustainability, both environmental and economic. Targeting small-scale farmers like this so that farmers can ensure their lives, as well as minimize their losses.

Not only the current 14-10 Agriculture and Fisheries Cooperative, GIZ also deploys the project at 6 points in 3 provinces: Soc Trang, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau. In addition to supporting part of the cost, the project also supports technical training as well as summarizing, piloting, and organizing seminars to share experiences and replicate. The total capital for the project is about 100,000 Euro, equivalent to about 2.5 billion VND.
