The technique of raising freshwater white pomfrets does not require high technology; Just need to know the basic technical steps of white pomfret farming to be able to raise. Below we will introduce the most popular fast-growing freshwater fish. Let’s find out with Agri!

Ecological characteristics of freshwater whitebirds

The freshwater white pompano is a tropical fish, native to the Amazon basin. The shape is almost like a seabird. The body is beautiful and tall, the head is small, the body length is 2 times the body height, the body is silver gray or bluish silver. Pelvic, pectoral, and anal fins red. They are in the middle and lower floors, living and swimming in groups.

Breeding freshwater pompano in ponds is very easy to catch, in the first catch, up to 90% of the fish in the pond can be caught. The freshwater white pompano is a tropical fish, native to the Amazon basin of South America.

The freshwater white pompano is omnivorous, has a wide food spectrum, including a variety of terrestrial and aquatic vegetables, fruit shells, cereal grains, organic humus, etc. Animal foods include: silkworm pupae, small shrimp and fish, snails, mussels, meat waste… Raised in ponds, fed enough fish to grow quickly, the commercial value is higher than traditional farmed fish today.

Prepare the pond

– Pond with suitable area: 500 – 1,000 m2, depth 1.2 – 1.5m. We drain and dredge the mud so that the bottom mud layer is about 10-15 cm thick. Repair the drains, fill all the holes.

– Use lime powder to disinfect, the amount from about 7-10 kg / 100m2. Discharge water into the pond (through the filter) from 50 to 60 cm.

– Fertilizer for coloring: Composted manure: about 30 – 50 kg/100m2 Green manure: 30 – 50 kg/100m2. After 4-5 days of filtering, add water to the pond to reach the level of 0.8 – 1m before releasing fish.

– Stocking fish: Choose healthy fish, uniform size, shiny color, not close, irregular… – Fish are about 1-2cm in size, stocked at a density of about 25-40 fish/m2. Release in the early morning or cool afternoon.

Care and management

a. Feeding fish: By industrial pelletized feed, or by powdered processed food with protein content of about 30-35%. Feeding amount per day is 10-15% of the fish weight in the pond. People feed in the early morning and evening at a stable time of the day. Align the feeding place and make a floor for the fish.

b. Fertilizer: Use composted manure, spread evenly around the pond. Amount 6-7 kg/100m2/time. Fertilize twice a week. People adjust water color, check environmental factors and prevent and treat fish diseases.

c. Harvest: When the fish reaches about 6-8cm in size, it is harvested to raise fish for meat. Stop feeding the fish one day in advance. Harvest early in the morning. Use a trawl net about 2/3 of the fish in the pond. Then drain off all the collected water.

Fish farming: There are many forms of farming (coupled or single)

1. Preparation of pond for raising freshwater pomfret: (like the rearing part) Note: Make sure the pH of pond water is stable from 5.5 to 7.4. The habitat of this fish is in slightly acidic waters. Clarity of pond water: about 20-30 cm. – The amount of dissolved oxygen is about 4-6mg/liter.

2. Stocking fish: Freshwater pompano seed before stocking must be bathed in 3% salt water for 3-5 minutes. Make sure the fish is healthy, does not scratch, does not carry disease. Note to drop in early morning or cool afternoon.

3. Density: According to formula + Formula 1: Breeding freshwater white pomfret is the main. Stocking density: 2 – 3 fish/m2 – Grafting rate is as follows: White pompano: 70%, white bream 5%, Indian drift fish: 10%, monogamous tilapia: 10%, carp: 2% , catfish flower: 3%. With the second formula: White pomfret is a secondary cultured fish. The stocking density of common fish is about 2-3 fish/m2. The types of fish that are paired are white cycads, flower cycads, drifting fish, unisexual tilapia, and carp. Grafting rate: White pompano is 10-15% of the total population.

Management and care:

a. Feeding freshwater whitefish: Industrial feed in sinking pellets, protein content 25-27%. Or use mixed feed: rice bran, corn, potatoes, vegetables… and about 20-25% protein content: fish chips, shrimps… The amount of feed per day is 5 – 7% of the total amount of fish in the pond. feeding at 9am and 4pm. Place the food in the feeder at multiple fixed points. Check the rig daily to adjust the amount of food for fish. Fertilizing water color: Once a week, manure is applied about 25-30 kg/100m2.

b. Pond management: Regularly actively observe the activities of fish. Note 1 week of water supply 1 time, each time the water rises from 20 to 30cm. It is necessary to check the culverts, banks and regularly keep the water level stable from about 1.2 – 1.5 m.

Preventive measures:

a. Disease prevention: People clean and disinfect ponds properly. Attention absolutely do not keep with grass carp. In the corner of the pond and the fish feeding area, it is recommended to hang a bag of 100g chlorine disinfectant.

b. Diseases of pompano: Through farming in many establishments, white pomfret has not been found to be sick. But according to Chinese documents in the winter, fish often get sick: melon worms, white skin, gill ulcers, wheel worms.. Then harvest: After 4-6 months of farming, the fish is about 0.5 – 0.7 kg/head or more, then large fish are harvested. At the end of January, the whole collection should be harvested before winter.
