Bee Happy also brought a Korean partner to survey and directly approach the beekeeping process of long-term affiliated farmers in Duc Trong, Don Duong and Lam Ha districts. After visiting the actual production of royal jelly by farmers here, the partner took samples and brought them back to Korea for analysis and testing, meeting all 157 nutritional and food safety criteria, and then making a final decision. Signing and implementing the contract to purchase stable output of the first year of 50 kg per month.

In the memorandum of understanding, by 2021, it is expected that the consumption volume of the Korean partner will increase monthly. Also from 2021 onwards, the Korean partner will expand the consumption of products from the honey beekeeping of the associated farmers with the brand name Tran Mao, Da Lat such as pollen, pure honey, royal jelly tablets … processed according to GMP standards in the production of global functional foods.

Vietnamese honey bees

Currently, through a system of 700 agents nationwide, Bee Happy is stably consuming about 500 kg of products from honey beekeeping such as royal jelly, honey, pollen, etc. of related farmers every month. conclude.

About 5 years ago, many Vietnamese honey brands were born and developed rapidly. Besides some long-standing brands such as Apidona (Dong Nai Honey Bee Company), Vinapi (Central Bee Company), DakHoney (Dak Lak Honeybee Company), there are many quite new brands such as Xuan Nguyen, Truong Tho, Phuong Nam, Honimore, Zemlya…

In parallel with exports, honey companies are entering the domestic market more and more for two reasons: First, some raw honey export companies have been returned, so they have to close labels and packaging to ensure that their products are not damaged. domestic consumption. Secondly, the demand for honey in the next 10-15 years will be huge, not only for export but also in the country, so many companies have shifted to building brands to develop the domestic market.

In fact, more and more products are processed from honey (refined, mint flower, longan flower, wild flower, peach lemon…), turmeric honey, royal jelly, pollen… supermarket system. The retail price of honey in the domestic market ranges from 200,000-300,000 VND/liter. However, the selling price for exporting companies is only nearly 40,000 VND/liter. Because the demand of the domestic market is not large enough, beekeepers are often pressured by purchasing companies.

Ranked second in Asia in terms of export volume (about 50,000 tons of honey, nearly 1,000 tons of beeswax per year) but so far, Vietnam’s honey is mostly only exported raw and no brand is known internationally. arrive. The average export price of Vietnamese honey is only 1.22 euros/kg, the lowest in the world, while New Zealand’s honey exports have the highest average price of 23.25 euros/kg.

Unlike other agricultural products, the main markets for bee products are the US, European countries, and Japan. These are fastidious markets with high quality requirements. In return, the export turnover obtained from these markets reached hundreds of millions of USD in 2016, an attractive figure compared to many other livestock industries. Honey is one of the very few products that meets both criteria, which is good for health and environmentally friendly production process. Therefore, Europe’s import of this item from Asia has increased steadily over the years.

One problem is that Vietnamese beekeepers lack capital to improve technology and improve quality, while businesses face difficulties in cost of export quality inspection. Hanoi Bee Company once invested in an inspection room worth more than 1 billion VND, but only tested 12/24 criteria. For the remaining criteria, the Company must send to Germany for testing, which costs about USD 1,250 per sample.

Dr. Hoang Thanh Van, Director of the Department of Livestock Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that if calculating the export rate in the livestock industry in Vietnam, beekeeping reached the highest level with about 90% of output. In 2015, the price of honey increased to 2,800 USD/ton and many farming establishments competed to increase production. Only 1 year later, the price of honey fell to 1,400 USD/ton, making the whole honey industry in Vietnam difficult. It is estimated that in 2015 and 2016, about 20% of Vietnamese honey shipments to the US were returned because of suspected Carbendazim infection.
