Experience in building a model of commercial goat farming for high economic efficiency

The commercial goat farming model is one of the economic models with high efficiency, providing a decent income for many households, helping many rural areas to escape poverty sustainably. Building a model of raising bats initially does not cost too much to raise animals with simple cages and easy-to-find and cheap food sources. If you want to switch to this model, you can use General Agricultural Information to refer to the experience of building a model of beef cattle, which is updated in the following article:

1. Refer to the investment cost of building a model of raising bats

The cost of investment in rearing depends on the scale of the model that farmers want to build. The larger the model is built, the higher the number of seeds raised, the higher the cost will be. The initial cost of building a model of raising bats includes the cost of buying breeding stock, the cost of building a barn and the cost of feed. In the process of raising, there will be some other costs such as disease prevention and treatment costs, arising costs, … You can refer to some initial investment costs including:

  • Cost of building a barn to raise bats

The cost of building a barn depends mainly on the size, number of bats and development orientation of the bat rearing model. If you are raising for the first time, if you want to experiment first, you don’t need to build a foster home. In order to save costs, people only take advantage of the excess space in the house, the empty corners of the barn to raise other animals to make a place to raise animals. People just need to match the flower bricks into squares to be able to raise livestock. This method applies to the model of raising from one to three pairs of bats. The cost of only a few million is enough to build cages to keep bats.

If farmers raise goats on a large scale and invest in building a new barn, the cost is higher, ranging from 10-100 million VND depending on the area they want to build. Building a barn on a small scale costs about 10-20 million VND.

  • The cost of buying a brood to make a model for raising a meat bat

The cost of buying breeding stock depends on the breed and age of the bat. There are many different types of molds such as big molds, peach cheeks, big molds. Each different line has a different price. Usually, a pair of the youngest breeder will cost from 800,000 VND/pair or more.

You can refer to the prices of some popular breeds of bats that are raised today:

* The price of the moldy mold originated from China

  • Seeds of the mother cup type (weight of 3 ounces) cost about 1,400,000 VND/pair

  • Seeds of 4-5 months old (weighing 4-5 taels) cost about 1,600,000 VND/pair.

  • Puppies breed (weighing from 8 to 9 pounds) costs about 2,200,000 VND/pair

  • Breeding breeds are mating (weight from 1 to 1.2kg), price from 2,500,000 VND/pair

* The price is similar to Thai peach cheeks

  • Seeding the mother’s cup, the price is about 3,500,000 VND / 1 pair

  • Seeds are 3 months old, the price is about 5,000,000 VND / 1 pair

  • 4 months old seed, price from 6,000,000 VND / 1 pair

  • Five-month-old seedlings, the price is about 7,000,000 VND / 1 pair

  • The gilts weighing from 2 to 3 kg cost about 15,000,000 VND/pair

  • For parents who have given birth to 1-2 litters, the price is from 20,000,000 VND for a pair

Note: The cost of the above update is for your reference only. The price of seeds may change according to the season, according to market demand.

  • The cost of food for the dog

In general, the cost of buying food for bats is quite cheap. For the models of raising bats in rural areas, people can fully take advantage of agricultural by-products and trees in the garden to feed the bats. The food of the bats includes all kinds of corn, potatoes, cassava, sugar cane, bamboo, chit trees, …. The cost of food for the hedgehog only costs about 200,000 – 500,000 VND, and the porcupine can eat for many months.

2. Experience of choosing to buy a breeder

Bats have an average lifespan of about 6 years. Each year they give birth about 3-4 times, each time from 3 to 5 cubs. As a model of raising bats for the first time, people choose to buy small bats to raise. Younger guinea pigs are easier to adapt and more convenient to care for. The lower cost of buying small seeds will help reduce the risk of breeding.

When buying seed pods, you should choose a reputable address with a full ranger certificate. Choose to buy a seed of similar size to facilitate care. Pay attention to choose a healthy breed, smooth hair, eat well, eat a lot, be agile, not deformed, run and jump well.

To choose male – female, people base on their genitals to distinguish. Males will have 2 testicles similar to the testicles of dogs and no breasts. Females will have 2 rows of breasts on both sides similar to the breasts of pigs. Usually, the male pins will be the same size or larger than the female ones.

3. Build cages to raise bats

Technical requirements for cages

Construction of cages to raise bats must meet the following requirements:

  • The cage must be solid and firm. Bat is a species that does not like light, works mainly at night, so when building a barn, people limit light during the day. You can build a half-light half-dark barn.

  • The cages for raising bats must be clean, cool, dry and free from rain.

  • Animal cages must be built in a quiet location, not disturbed by other animals (rats, snakes, dogs, cats, …)

  • In order for the breeding model to be effective, the barn must be hygienic. The cages need to be cemented to facilitate cleaning. The floor of the barn is built with a slope of 1-2%, with a thickness of 8-10cm so that people can’t dig a burrow.

  • The roof of the barn can be used for roofing, which will be cooler for the flock.

  • Around the barn is covered with B40 wire mesh to protect the nest and prevent theft.

  • In the barn, people can make artificial burrows for the animals.

Making a barn to raise commercial animals

The cages are built into each cell with a lid with an area of about 1 x 2 x 7 (m) (equivalent to width x length x height). Each cage can raise from 15 to 20 commercial bats.

In addition, when raising a trial, people can also refer to making a barn in the style of “Chinese medicine cabinet”. This type of barn can be built using bricks, square bricks or wood. This type of cage is suitable for the model of raising bats with a small area. The advantage of the “Chinese medicine cabinet” type of cage is that it is easy to clean. The disadvantage is that the technique of making the cage requires meticulousness, so it is quite time consuming.

4. Food source for bats

Bats are omnivores, they can eat many different foods, so their food source is relatively rich and diverse. Food sources for commercial farming include all kinds of vegetables, tubers, roots, fruits, sweet, bitter, and acrid sprouts, etc. In addition, they can also eat mixed concentrates. elements, mineral supplements, animal foods such as insects, snails, earthworms, …

You can refer to the average diet for 1 bat in 1 day as follows:

  • From 2 to 3 months old: eat about 50-100g of vegetables and fruits every day + 5-10g of mixed food + 5-10g of rice, corn, beans of all kinds.

  • From 3 to 6 months old: consume about 100 – 250g of vegetables, tubers and fruits every day + 10 – 15g of mixed food + 5 – 15g of grain food such as rice, beans + 3 – 10g of peanut oil, dry oil coconut.

  • From 6 to 9 months old: every day eat about 250 – 350g of vegetables, tubers and fruits + 15 – 30g of mixed food + 15 – 30g of all kinds of nuts + 10 – 20g of peanut oil, coconut oil.

In the diet of the bat when making a model of raising a bat, people can replace coconut oil, peanut oil with insects such as ants, termites, worms, bugs or earthworms. Mixed concentrate for bats can be used as pellets for 1-month-old chicks and ducklings.

The above servings should be for reference only. Farmers can change and adjust the amount of food according to the weight and growth of the bats. Also observe to see if after 12 hours of feeding, the worms eat all, can add more food. If the amount of leftover food is large, then reduce the next feeding time.

If you feed them enough fresh vegetables, tubers and fruits, they don’t need to give them more water or less water.

5. Prevention and treatment of bats

In order to achieve high economic efficiency, farmers need to focus on disease prevention and treatment for bats. Apply preventive measures for the animals by ensuring that the barn is always dry, clean, cool, avoiding drafts, rain, hot sun.

The bat is a domesticated wild animal. In general, this animal has a very strong resistance to disease. However, when raising goats, people also need to pay attention to prevent some common diseases such as:

  • Skin diseases: Parasitic skin parasites such as mites, caused by tick bites, cause scabies. You can use topical antibiotics or let them lick themselves. To prevent skin diseases in the commercial guinea pig model, farmers should periodically clean and disinfect the cages, disinfect the barn and the surrounding area 1-2 times/month.

  • Intestinal diseases: Dogs often suffer from intestinal diseases because their diets are not full of ingredients and nutritional value, are not hygienic, causing them to have diarrhea. At this time, you can use medicine to treat diarrhea for the guinea pig. In addition, people can apply folk remedies such as adding bitter and acrid foods such as green guava, areca root, coconut root, etc. to control diarrhea. In the process of raising bats, people do not use moldy, stinky foods, the diet of the bats must be rich and varied to prevent and limit intestinal diseases in the bats.

6. Harvest from the commercial bat farming model.

Before selling meat about 30-40 days, people fatten them with rice, broken rice, ground corn about 60-70% mixed with refined food or concentrated food. Pure food, people can use the kind for 1-month-old chicks and ducklings at the rate of 30-40%.

Grown commercial products are healthy, gain weight very quickly. They can grow from 0.5 to 0.7 kg/month. After about 10 months of fostering, they can gain from 1.5 kg or more, people can sell.

The above is the experience of building a model of commercial bat farming, which is synthesized from many long-term bat breeders. Just starting out with dog farming, you can refer to the updated shares in the article.
