Techniques for raising ducks to lay super eggs

  • Preparing the barn

Clean and disinfect the barn, disinfect the floor and walls, ceiling with 2% stork disinfectant or Formol 2% or Cresyl 5%, litter (straw, rice husk must be disinfected with Fomlol 12% and minimum thickness). 5cm at the beginning).

Arrange feeding troughs, separate drinking troughs, dry places for ducks to rest. There are places where ducks practice wading and preening. Warm up the coop before putting the ducks in the brood.

The brooding cage must be cool, in the winter it is airtight. avoid wind and rain. Playground covered with sun and rain. There should be a swimming pool for ducklings, a 2 x 3 m tank built with a depth of 0.2 – 0.3 m for 200 3-week-old ducks. If you do not dig a pond, you can give the ducks a bath in a pot or in a rubber sheet containing water to make a bath for the ducks.

In the first week, brood the cage to keep the ducks warm, avoiding dogs, cats, and mice from eating. The brooding cage is made of bamboo, wooden frame size 2 x 1 x 0.5 m, lid. The bottom and lid of the cage are made of iron mesh. Avoid drafts and keep ducks warm, during the first few weeks.

If brooding conditions are not available, brooding can be done on the ground. The floor of the barn is lined with clean dry rice husk or straw, the incubator is made of bamboo, the feeding and drinking troughs are arranged evenly. Regularly change the cage lining to keep the duck’s feet warm, clean and dry in the first week.

  • The temperature of the barn

Using 75W electric bulb for heating and lighting, 2 bulbs/incubator. The temperature for the first 1-3 days is 33-340C. After that, on the 10th-14th day, there is no need for heating anymore.

The appropriate humidity is 60 -70%, if high, it is very dangerous for ducklings, the litter must be dry to keep the duck’s feet warm and clean.

  • Lighting mode

During the first week to the second week, lighting is available 24/24, then 18/24.

Light intensity for ducks during this period: 1 – 10 days old 2 W/m2 (circular ball). Over 10 days, 0.50 W/m2 (long shadow), natural light is used during the day. Where there is no electricity for lighting, they must use kerosene lamps to light up the ducks to eat and drink, to avoid overlapping each other.

The first day should feed the ducklings with rice, brown rice or soaked broken rice. Ducks should not be fed bait or industrial food because in the duck’s belly there is a yolk mass that is a source of protein for ducks, if the duck eats the bait immediately, the duck has diarrhea, because the duck’s protein digesting enzyme is not complete. From day 2, feed for ducks must ensure 22% crude protein and energy 2890 Kcal/kg feed.

In the first 5 days, feed the ducklings 4 times/day, the next 5 days feed 3 times/day, then 2 times/day. It is recommended to feed many meals a day, pour less food each time, so as not to rot, ducks can eat more.

Using pellets to brood ducklings is a good idea. From the 4th day, let the ducklings eat green vegetables, chopped water spinach, duckweed, the amount of green vegetables equal to 20% of the food.

Drinking water must be clean, full day and night. In the first 3 weeks, mix Vitanim B – Complex for ducks to drink to increase resistance.

Bathing ducks: Newly hatched ducklings have not yet dried their umbilical cord and are prone to infection, so the first 3 days should not bathe ducks. From the 3rd day, practice gradually going down to the bath, pond or basin, then the bathing time gradually increases. The 10th day for ducks to bathe freely.

Disease prevention in super egg ducks

People need to be very careful to prevent diseases for their ducks.

  • Day 1-2: Preventing stress for ducks with a mixture of Vitanim and antibiotics.
  • Day 7-9: Prevention of intestinal diseases with synthetic antibiotics.
  • Days 15-17: Preventing respiratory diseases for ducks with antibiotics (duck nose decongestant).
  • Day 18-21: Prevent duck cholera vaccine.
  • 4 months old vaccinated against duck cholera for the second time.
Farmers need to pay attention to periodically check for diseases of ducks to have appropriate treatment

Monthly or when the weather changes, give ducks vitamin C and synthetic antibiotics to prevent respiratory or digestive diseases. Before and after transportation, vaccination, month of seed drop, ducks should be given vitamins and synthetic antibiotics.

Above is the entire technique of raising ducks to lay super eggs for your reference and application. Wish you success in implementing this duck breeding model.
