Today, when the market demand skyrockets for the consumption of geese, many families have begun to focus on developing meat geese. Meat swan is a breed of livestock that grows and develops quickly, consumes little food, has a high survival rate, and is reasonably priced.

However, for beginners, due to lack of experience, swan farming often loses. To avoid the situation of geese being thin, slow to grow, and having poor meat quality, we need to understand the following basic meat geese farming techniques.

main content

Prepare farm equipment to raise meat swans

Breeding swan meat cage:

Breeding cages and equipment must be cleaned and empty for 15-20 days before raising. The cages need to be treated according to veterinary hygiene procedures, sweeping or sprinkling with 40% lime, disinfecting with 3% formol 2-3 times. 1-2 days before landing, spray disinfectant for the last time. Note to close the door while spraying, after 5h to 7h it can be opened.

Prepare feeder to feed geese:

Use a corrugated iron feeder with dimensions of 70 cm – 2.5 m. 1 trough can be used for 70-100 animals

Drinking troughs to feed geese:

Depending on the stage of adult geese to arrange suitable drinking troughs:

At 1-2 weeks of age, use round drinking troughs of 2 liters type.

3-12 weeks old use round drinking trough type 5 liters. About 20 to 30 animals use 1 trough to ensure the supply of 0.3 to 0.5 liters of water per animal per day.

Necessary heating hood in geese culture:

You can use a heater or electric bulb to provide heat for the cubs. Use a 75W electric bulb to heat 60 to 70 swans.

Increase the number of electric bulbs in winter: 2 bulbs 1 crank. If there is no electricity, people use coal stoves, rice husk furnaces, etc. to replace them.

Note: People have to install exhaust pipes of rice husk stoves and rice husk furnaces to the outside of the barn. Otherwise, the high concentration of toxic gas will affect the health of the swans.

Breeding geese meat:

Using a pressed barrel to make a crank, 1 crank has a height of 0.5m; 4.5m long used for 60 -70 animals. From day 5, gradually increase the corral area for the geese to exercise and eat. From the end of the 3rd week, at the beginning of the 4th week, remove the crank so that the swans can exercise and eat comfortably.

Curtains to feed swans

Use tarpaulin, pressed cotton or mulch to cover around the geese cage to keep heat and avoid drafts.

The litter must be dry, clean, free of mold and must be changed regularly. People should use embryos, rice husks, if not, use chopped hay… and spray disinfectant with 2% formol.

Raising meat swans needs to build a playground

From the middle of the 3rd week onwards, the geese need a yard, or a garden with a clean ditch to comfortably exercise and bathe. Wash and change the ditch twice a day to ensure that the geese are always bathed in clean water.

Breeding geese meat, how to choose?

– Select hatched geese with fluffy feathers, bright eyes, compact belly, fat legs, and characteristic fluff color of the breed.

– Should separate male geese, hens raised separately from 1 day old.

– R31 swans: lemon yellow feathers, with black markings on the tail.

– Goose R51: yellow or straw feathers, pink legs and bill, with or without black spots on the head.

– Super Heavy Goose: Yellow, straw-yellow feathers with or without black spots on the head, legs and pink bill.

Temperature and lighting regime should be noted in raising geese:

The swans did not naturally regulate their body temperature in the first 2 weeks of being in the barn. Therefore, in order to raise swan meat with high efficiency, it is necessary to ensure the temperature for swans. This people must be very careful, because if the temperature is not suitable, the survival rate, the growth ability will be affected, and the swans are susceptible to respiratory and digestive diseases.

Breeding geese meat, need to know the Signs of body temperature recognition of swans:

When there is a lack of heat, swans lie on top of each other, close to the heat source.

When there is excess heat, the geese are scattered away from the heat source and thirst for water.

When the swans are warm enough, the swans are spread evenly in the cage

In the process of rearing geese for meat, bPlease remember the above 3 signs so that when you observe the geese, you can understand that they are lacking heat or having excess heat. From there, people have a method to adjust the optimal temperature for the geese to grow and develop well. The geese need to be illuminated 24 hours a day, during the day to take advantage of natural light to ensure a light intensity of 3W for 1m2 of the barn floor.

Nutritional methods to effectively raise meat swans

Notes on food for raising geese:

– First, people need to make sure that the food is always fresh, fragrant, and not moldy.

The feed needs to be balanced in nutritional composition to meet the needs of the swan’s growth and development in each stage.

– Types of feed for swans using a variety of ingredients and animal and plant supplements, mineral and vitamin premixes.

When raising geese for meat, what is the right way to feed?

To bring to the best productivity and quality for swans, people need to provide them with the amount of food that meets their needs. However, that does not mean that you can feed freely, the trough is always full of food. Doing so, the food will be rancid, moldy. If the swan is not fed properly, the swan’s food will affect its growth and even cause disease.

In order for the swans to eat a lot, with good food conversion efficiency, you need to feed the swans as follows:

– Feed the swans according to the meal, when they run out of food, they will continue to eat. A very useful tip to stimulate geese to eat more, is to regularly add new bran. The aroma of bran will support swans to eat more, bringing high nutritional efficiency.

– From 5-12 weeks old, swans can eat more green vegetables.

The method of raising swans for meat is not difficult if people regularly observe and plan to take care of the swans. Hopefully the above information will become a useful handbook for farmers to achieve good results. Happy successful people!
