The project “Application of scientific and technical advances in beef cattle raising in disadvantaged communes and ethnic minorities” is implemented in An Hai commune with 3 models:

  • Model of pure meat-oriented cows (Brahman cows), scale of 10 pregnant cows 10/10 pregnant cows, number of calves born: 4 children.
  • Model of beef cattle (Zebu hybrid), scale 2 bulls, artificial insemination (TTNT) with Brahman, Angus. Directly mated 51/80 pregnant cows. Having artificial insemination (IVF) pregnant with 90 children; The first pregnancy rate was 86.1%, the number of calves born: 33, the average birth weight was 26kg/head.
  • Model of planting, tending, harvesting and processing grass (VA06, large leaf lemongrass) as feed for cows, scale of 2 ha. Grass grows, develops well, has been cut 4th generation; 8.5 tons of feed can be incubated.

After listening to Mr. Do Ngoc Son, Deputy Head of Ninh Phuoc Agricultural Extension Station, report on the project implementation process and results, the households discussed and shared many experiences at the workshop.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Tuan, who participates in the pure cow breeding model, said: “Currently, the family’s cows are pregnant and are about to give birth to calves. As for the herd of fattening cows, after only 6 months of raising, they can be released from the barn thanks to the project on how to prepare food, so the cows grow up quickly.

Mr. Huynh Ngoc Loi from Tuan Tu village also said: “The AI family gave hybrid cows and found that the calf was born big, strong and voracious, so they decided to give birth to 7 cows. All 7 children are pregnant. Currently, the cow has given birth to 2 calves.

With the project results achieved in the coming time, the Center will continue to provide technical guidance to households in need to improve the stature, body weight, and improve the quality of the local cow herd. From there, it helps livestock farmers to develop their economy, increase their income, and improve their lives.
