Answering Questions About Breeding Eel Breeding Techniques

In recent years, eel farming has developed quite widely and has become a significant source of income for many households. However, farmers face many difficulties in sourcing seed. So breeding eel breeding techniques is a good solution, to actively produce seed and ensure the quality of seed for farmers.

Preparing the breeding tank for eel

Location: should choose a quiet, shady place with a good source of unpolluted water to create a tank for eels to breed.

Construction tanks are usually rectangular in shape, surrounded by cement bricks, polished walls, cemented bottom and pipes for water supply and drainage. The area of each tank is 20m2 or more, the tank has a height of 1m, a width of 2m – 4m, a length of 10m or more, the water level maintained at 0.3m.

Put the soil into the tank, the soil is 0.4m high, 0.5 – 0.8m wide depending on the width of the tank. Grass can be planted around the edge to preserve the soil as well as create a natural breeding environment for the eels to live. Or if using a cement tank without embankment, you must create a substrate with nylon rope tied into a beam to hang in the tank for eels to hide.

  • If it is a tarpaulin tank

The size of the tarpaulin tank depends on the conditions of each family, it is best to make a rectangular tank, the length of the tank should be twice the width, the total area of each tank is from 15m2 to 30m2. The height of the tank is about 0.8-1.2 m.

Use bamboo, wood or iron stakes to drive into the ground as a frame for the tank. The bottom of the tank and the walls are lined with tarpaulin, nylon or rubber. Pour around the tank an amount of about 0.4 – 0.5 m of clay or clean mud to create a slope from the tank wall to the middle of the tank.

After checking that the tank is completely closed, supply water to the tank with a water level of about 0.2 – 0.3m. On the surface of the tank, you can drop water hyacinth, coconut leaves or small bamboo, bunched in bunches arranged on the water to block the sun and prevent light, and at the same time make a shelter for eels. Arrange 8-10 spaces to make a place for eels to eat.

Select eels like parents, stocking density

Select broodstock with 10-12 months of age. Choose eels about 150-200g, healthy, not scratched. Eels with a length of less than 30 cm are mostly female, eels with a length of more than 50 cm are mostly male. The most suitable mating ratio is 1 male eel/1.5 female eel.

When buying eel seed, you should choose to buy from many different sources (at least 2 sources) to avoid the same blood and should buy in reputable places.

The best time to bring back eels is in the evening. After bringing it home, put the eel in a bowl of water for about 2 hours and then let the eel bathe in dilute salt water for about 15 minutes.

Stocking density depends on weight, minimum 15 fish/m2, maximum 20 fish/m2.

spawning eel

When a bubble nest appeared on the mouth of the cave or on the water surface and the bubble nest grew in the evening, the next morning the eels laid. The eggs cling to the foam nest and are light yellow, transparent.

The number of eggs obtained varies widely, ranging from a few dozen to several hundred eggs per nest. The average diameter of newly laid eggs is about 3.5 mm.

Hatch

You can use an incubator or common tools such as buckets, plastic bowls to incubate eel eggs.

Using a ready-made racket, lightly pick up the foam drive, wash it and put it in the incubation tank or clean water bowls, aeration continuously.

Keep the temperature in the pot about 28 – 30C, pH about 6 – 8. Change the water once a day. Within 10 days all eggs will hatch. Newly hatched baby eels have very small bodies, very large yolk sacs under the abdomen, maximum length of 2 cm, little movement, just lying still on the bottom of the tank. Release into the tank or incubate some bunches of nylon tassels as shelters for the eels. baby when hatching. After 7-10 days, all the yolks will be transferred to the nursery tank.

Feed for breeding eels

Food for spawning eels is mainly fresh food of animal origin such as trash fish, baby shrimp, yellow apple snail, frogs, earthworms, maggots… or plant foods such as water spinach, duckweed silage mixed with bran, bean residue (eels do not like plant food with animal food). Can be mixed with industrial feed 26 -30% protein with the rate of 70% fresh food and 30% industrial feed to feed the eels.

Food for eels must be fresh, do not feed old, rancid food. Fresh food is chopped to fit the size of the eel's mouth.

It is necessary to add Vitamin C, digestive enzymes … to the daily food for eels. Before the eel is about to lay (about 30 days), it is necessary to add food mixed with vitamins B1, B12 …

Thus, the technique of raising eels for reproduction is not very complicated but brings high efficiency. People can completely raise spawning eels by themselves so that they can actively create their own source of high quality eels to raise meat or sell eels. Happy successful people.
